Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
A fire broke out at an electric scooter showroom on Jessore Road on Tuesday, creating panic among locals and leading to a traffic jam on National Highway 12. On spotting the flames, people began running in the area, causing heavy disruption on the busy stretch. Police from Madhyamgram station and a fire engine reached the spot soon after receiving information. Firefighters brought the blaze under control within about 30 minutes.
According to officials, the exact cause of the fire is not yet known, though initial suspicion points to a short circuit. Fire extinguishers were present inside the showroom, but questions have been raised on why they were not used during the incident. Fire officers said it is too early to confirm the reason behind the blaze and an investigation is underway.
No casualties or injuries have been reported in the fire. However, the entire stock of electric scooters and other items stored inside the showroom were completely gutted. The incident resulted in severe traffic disruption on NH-12, which was cleared only after the fire was doused and the situation was brought under control.
